Cadillac Pursues Crash-Avoiding Technologies

DETROIT (August 27, 2010) - Cadillac has long been an innovator in safety technologies, but the next innovation could really be a quantum leap forward towards a crash-free future. It may sound like sci-fi, but it's not all that far-fetched.

John Capp, director for Global Active Safety at Cadillac, says future Cadillac technologies could include in-vehicle Doppler radar to spot obstructions or traffic jams ahead. Looking even further out, Capp sees autonomous vehicles that can communicate with each other, traffic signals and buildings, pointing to a world where cars may actually drive themselves.

Chevrolet Spark Earns 5-Star Safety Rating from KNCAP

SEOUL (August 26, 2010) – The new Chevrolet Spark minicar has earned the top rating of five stars from the Korean New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP), which today released its safety ratings for new vehicles launched in Korea. Currently available in Asia and Europe, the Spark will debut in the United States in 2012.

GM Supports Annual Drunk Driving Prevention Enforcement Campaign

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 24, 2010) - General Motors salutes NHTSA, law enforcement agencies, state traffic safety offices and others who are mobilizing during the last days of summer to save lives.  Sadly, drunk driving is still the cause of about one-third of highway fatalities.  High-visibility law enforcement campaigns like "Over the Limit. Under Arrest." are proven, effective means to prevent tragedies and change behaviors.  Through the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, GM also supports MADD's Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving which includes increased drunk driving enforcement as one of the key elements of the Campaign.

GMC Provides Consumer Tips for On Board Pet Safety

ATLANTA (August 20, 2010) - Parents and caregivers pay close attention to a child’s safety while traveling in a vehicle. Our pets need the same on board care.

On Friday, at the BarkWorld Expo in Atlanta, GMC partnered with Safe Kids USA, the Atlanta Humane Society and PETCO to provide hands-on pet safety tips and demonstrations on safely securing a pet while traveling along with cautions to avoid leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle.

OnStar Cautioning Drivers on Vehicle Heat Danger for Kids

DETROIT (August 4, 2010) - Only parents and caregivers can be sure their child or pet is not left unattended in a vehicle, but with August’s hot temperatures, OnStar advisors are ending calls by cautioning drivers who push the blue button to avoid a potentially fatal mistake.

From Aug. 1-14, a non-emergency contact from an active OnStar-equipped vehicle will close with the advisor’s caution:  “Please remember when it is hot not to leave kids or pets alone in a vehicle. “

H50-1 is an anthropomorphic test device (ATD) representing an average male. And, at a cost of countless arms, legs and sensors over a 15-year career, has taught General Motors and the auto industry a lot about safety.

So, it was only fitting that celebrities, news media, and Washington dignitaries braved the rain Thursday to mark his retirement to the peaceful confines of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum for American History.

GM Will Deactivate Heated Washer Fluid Systems

DETROIT (June 9, 2010) –General Motors Co. is recalling 1.5 million 2007-2009 model cars, trucks and crossovers to disable a heated washer fluid system module that could pose a fire risk. Because the feature will be disabled, GM will make a voluntary payment of $100 to the owner or lessee of each vehicle.
